NOTE: A number of visitors have reported that their GPS devices are leading them astray in their efforts to locate the zoo.
So, unless you can use Google Maps or you can enter the co-ordinates into your GPS, please ignore your navigation system in this part of the world – they may be fine in the city but are useless in the country! Our GPS Coordinates are… S 27.89200 E 152.01975
The Darling Downs Zoo is situated at Pilton, on the corner of Baines Road and the Gatton-Clifton Road, which runs between Tent Hill [near Gatton] in the east and the New England Highway [near Clifton] in the west. This road is State Road 80 and this is indicated at intervals along it’s route by a blue shield with the numbers 80. The road is often referred to locally as the Heifer Creek road or the Ma Ma Creek road. If you are coming from the Lockyer Valley or Brisbane you will find it a beautiful, winding country drive. We are 50 kilometres along this road from the Tent Hill turnoff. Unfortunately the Department of Transport and Main Roads has refused to allow us directional signage on this route so please use this map to help find us.
If you are coming from Toowoomba or Warwick you will access this road from the New England Highway – about midway between the two centres. The turnoff is very clearly indicated by brown Main Roads tourism directional signs. The zoo is 5 kilometres along this road from the turnoff.
