WEATHER

22-Oct-2017

The recent rain has been very welcome at the zoo. We had no rain at all in September and everything was getting very dry and dusty.

We are now all nice and green again, however that greenery has come at a price!

Giraffes will have restricted access to their paddock for their own safety.  They are ungainly animals on wet ground and a slip could have disastrous consequences.  Their visibility for our visitors will be restricted until the ground is safe again.

Paths are quite soft in parts.  We have been doing a lot of pathway remediation work but the surfaces had not settled before the rain came.  Right now they are definitely not suitable for mobility scooters or prams with small wheels.

The ground off the paths is black soil and is very muddy in parts.  Please stay o the paths.

As the weather warms up again the Downs will be unusually humid after all of the rain.

Many local farmers were able to harvest a percentage of their crops ahead of the rain.  That means that harvest flies are out and about again.

We supply free Aeroguard and sunscreen for our visitors at a stand on the back verandah of the entrance building.
