EASTER 2016 NEWCOMERS.20-Mar-2016
Just in time for the Easter holidays the Darling Downs Zoo has welcomed several exciting newcomers.
Our Blackbuck Antelope herd have a number of new babies and there is also a baby Rhesus Monkey and several Red Kangaroo joeys on view.
Bur our South American section has seen the most exciting additions. As well as the Capybara brothers who arrived late last year, we now also have 4 Patagonian Mara sharing the Brazilian Tapir enclosure. You will recognise them easily - they look like giant Easter bunnies!
Due out of quarantine in time for the holidays are 2 pairs of Brazilian Agouti. These beautiful little rodents are the first of their species to be imported into Australia in 50 years. They are like a beautifully coloured overgrown rat with no tail. You can find at least one pair in the South American aviary, next to the Tapir enclosure. The Darling Downs Zoo will breed these lovely animals and share them with other zoos in our region.
The zoo will be open every day during the Easter holidays - normal trading hours and daily program of free photo sessions and informative talks..
Personal Encounters with Big Cats [3 for the price of one], Marmosets, Meerkats [the only ones in Queensland] and Zebras can also be purchased but please email us to book in advance as demand is very heavy during the holidays.
Happy Easter everybody!
